Through a large gate with a view of a cypress board fence, and past a set of noren curtains, is a transformative space. MARUYO HOTEL is a place that connects the present and the past, the outside and the inside. The design is a mixture of the East and West.

Rokkaen, a Western-style mansion from the Meiji era (1868-1912) located near the MARUYO HOTEL, was designed by Josiah Conder, reknowned architect of the Rokumeikan.

This Western-style room pays homage to Conder, with white plaster walls and elegant interior that create a comforting atmosphere. At night, when the grand gate is closed, the private garden appears through the antique French-Dutch glass doors, creating a view that is a feast for the eyes.

The master bedroom boasts an impressive black plaster tokonoma alcove with a bluish hue like the night sky. Turning to the courtyard, the moss in the tsuboniwa garden seen through the yukimi-shoji screen is striking against the black fence, and an open-air cypress bath leads gently from the washroom. At night, it is beautifully illuminated by the moonlight, and in the morning, you can enjoy the luxury of gazing at the refreshing sky.

The space's two distinct facets, night and day, allow for a peaceful yet extraordinary time.

［ Lounge］

The lounge, with its modern look of cypress latticework and earthen walls, is a space where guests can enjoy their welcome tea and sweets and check in at their leisure. Guests can also relax and enjoy their private time there.

［Dining room］

The dining room on the second floor can be used as a place for conversation and meals. The view of the riverfront will transport you back in time, bringing to mind scenes of travelers coming and going in days gone by.

The rough earthen walls, still intact from when the house was built, exude over 70 years of history. Please enjoy the sense of eternal time that flows through this place.

The library room on the second floor, with its soft curves of stucco and elegant furnishings such as sliding screen doors, offers a relaxing place to spend time. Quietly read a book on the sofa while wrapped in the earthen walls, or enjoy a moment of conversation after dinner or some tea after breakfast.
